This thing we call life is rife with heartache and discord, love and beauty, joy and sorrow, happiness and anger. The trick is to live it well through all situations. When we look back at our life we don’t want the hard times to look like a train wreck, but instead want the hard times to highlight the good times. Hard times actually can be lessons that make the good times seem more meaningful, even when those hard times result from our own sin and mistakes. But the difficulties will only function to make us more appreciative of the great times if we are living life well, which starts from getting God’s perspective on things.
I believe the key to a life lived well is found in Christ alone. If you don’t believe in Christ you will still benefit from what the Bible has to say about living well. Living well is more about keeping an eternal perspective on life than it is being focussed on only the day to day of life. Christians, if they choose to fully commit their whole being to Christ, have a hope that extends into forever. It is this eternal hope, that after life on this world we will be with God forever, as opposed to being forever separated from God, that allows us to live well now. It is essential to believe in Christ because it is only through choosing to believe in and accept for our personal salvation, His death and resurrection that we are able to spend eternity in the presence of God.
It is the hope of the resurrection of Jesus Christ that enables the Christian to live well. Because Jesus rose from the dead, Christians know He has conquered death and we are assured of our eternity. With our eternity ensured Christians are liberated from having day to day worries drain us of hope, love and joy.
I was born in 1984 and am what is known as a millennial. I skated through life without much trouble till I was 17. The summer before my senior year of high school is when it all began to unravel. Alternately it was the summer when I began the process of learning to live life well. Living well has as much to do with perception as it does with actual events. Believing in Christ gives us an eternal perspective. To put it another way it allows us to see the whole forest from 10,000 feet rather than standing in the forest and only seeing the tree right in front of you.
So what’s the take away? A life lived well starts with receiving Christ and then growing in Him to develop a forever perspective. Christ is necessary for a life well lived. How is your perspective? Do you need help in gaining a Christ-centered forever perspective, so your circumstances do not drain you of hope, love and joy? If so email me and let’s talk about how Christ can help change that.
