There is a lot of darkness in this world. It's tough to watch movies or tv and not be inundated with it by the programing available today. But it's even harder to drive past it or walk the streets in Costa Rica and see it. And it's not just the people "out there" I pass. It's the missionaries I am with while learning language. It stares at me when I look in the mirror or when I yell at my kids. It's the fear crouching at the door, fear of speaking and not knowing the language, fear of being robbed, fear of spoken to and not understanding what is being said to me, fear of being asked about my Jesus and not having the "right response". Ok I admit I don't have much fear when it comes to most of that last sentence but learning a language can be intimidating. But that last part. .. I can sputter out "Jesus died for your sins". But a heart level conversation? Let's just say I'm still prayer for the gift of tongues when it comes to Spanish, whether that's how it works or not.
In the end what does it matter? The same God who spoke to Job out of the storm in Job chapter 38-40 is the same God speaking to me today. And He is no less powerful today as He was then because He still "commands the morning,
And causes the dawn to know its place". He is still the "Light of the world" and a light that can't be extinguished as the book of John says in chapter 1. And with this "Light" in my life that "the darkness did not overpower" , this light that is Christ Jesus, what do I have to fear from darkness? So while it maybe night now, just me and the geckos, the dawn is here!
